          UPSC GEOLOGIST    EXAMINATION

Geology is the science that studied the dynamics of the evolution and the nature of the earth and of the natural, mineral energy recourses it contains. Geophysicists use the knowledge of physics to study the earths interior. marine geologist studies the ocean basins continental shelves and costal environment. Hydro geologist study the water table and the properties of water below and on the earths surface. Specialization in this field can lead to rewarding careers in prestigious geo scientific organizations like the geological survey of India (GSI) a central ground water board (CGWP). Masters degree in geology/applied geology/marine geology/Marine exploration/diploma of  associateship in applied geology of the Indian school of mines. Dhanbad are the basic educational qualification required for geological survey of India (GSI) master in hydrogeology is the requisite qualification for the job in CGWB. UPSC conducts an all India examination to recruit the candidate for the post in CSI and CGWB
Eligibility
Nationality: Same norms as for the UPSC examination apply.
Age: Between 21 to 32 yrs (on January 1st of yr of applying) age relaxation is available for SC/ST and obc candidates.

Syllabus for written examination
Geology paper I: general geology,geomorphology,structure geology,stratigraphy and paleontology Geology paper II: crystallography,mineralogy,petrologyand geo chemistry. Geology paper III: Indian mineral deposits,mineral exploration,mineral economics and economic geology. 

The examination recruit the candidate for 2 categories category I-geologist (junior) group 'A' II Assistant geologist group 'B'in the GSIor  ,category II: junior hydro geologist (scientist 'B")

candidate can apply either or both the categories. candidate applying for both the categories have to appear for all five papers in the written examination. Candidates applying for category I need appear for only subjects 1,2,3,4.Candidate appearing for category II should offer the subjects 1,2,3,and 5.Examination have to be answered in english and question are of the essay type only. the second part of the selection process is the interview where the candidate is tested for his personality ,initiative, leadership qualities and suitability for public services. selected candidates are absorbed for various projects of GSI and CGWB. Application forms are available at all district headquarters. at the assign head post offices / post offices.
