A general checklist 

• A successful completion of bachelors degree/equivalent  course from recognized university.

• Meritorious academic performance.

•  Evidence of satisfactory English proficiency.

• Evidence of ability to make the full course of stud at the university.

d.  The student has to decide on the university of his choice and apply for admission. There are around 3000 institutions of  higher education from which to choose. Admission to American university is got through direct correspondence. Application has to be forwarded in the specified form called "Request for application materials" form (RAM). All specified certificates have to be sending with the application. Once the university issues the letter of acceptance, student should apply for the f-1 student visa. US University operates on an academic year of nine months- September to June.

*English language tests

TOFEL: Evaluates English proficiency of non-native speakers. The test is administered in a single session of two and half hours. The examination is in three parts and consists of multiple choices. The first is the section of listing comprehension. The second is the written expression paper to examine the standard of written English. A test of written English (two) assesses the reading comprehension of the candidate.

TOFEL has no passing score .For undergraduate study a score of 550 and above is acceptable, for postgraduate level a score of 600 and above is required.

ACT (American College Testing programme):

Is design to evaluate American student who are native speakers of English and going to the freshman at American universities.  Graduate Applicants-Academic units .

GRE (graduate record examination):

Applications to graduate programme are required to take the academic entrance tests of which most common is GRE. The test is for us students who are native speakers

of English and it tests the knowledge the student gained during his undergraduate training.

GMAT (Graduate Management Admission Test)

Is design to test the candidate on graduate business topics. The art is meant for native speakers of English and is conducted by ETS. Some universities also test the spoken English proficiency of applicants who want teaching positions through the TSE (Test of spoken English)

SAT(Scholastic Aptitude Test)
