History |

The early history of
Sikkim starts
in the 13th century with the signing of the brotherhood treaty between
the Lepcha Chief Thekong-Tek and the Tibetan prince Khye-Bhumsa at kabi
Lungtsok in North sikkim. The state is inhabited chiefly by the Lepchas,
who are the tribe indigenous to sikkim with their own dress and
language, Bhutias, who originally came from Tibet and the
Gorkhlis(Nepalis) who entered from Nepal in large number's in the late
19th and early 20th century .Sikkim became a full fledged state in the Indian
union with the effect from April 26,1975.
