The word Punjab is made up of two Persian
word's Panj and Aab .Panj means five and Aab means water.
This name was probably given to this land of five river's possibly in
era when this region came in to close contact with persia. In later year
it saw the rise and fall of the Mauryans, Bacterians, Greek's, Sakas,
Kushans and guptas,Midieval Punjab saw
a supremacy of muslims. 15th and 16th century mark a period of
watershed in the history of punjab. Through teaching of Guru Nanak Bhakti
movement received a great impetus. Prima facie sikhism was a social
religious movement which was more interested in fighting revel's in the
society. After two abortive anglo sikh war, Punjab was finally annexed to
the british empire in 1849.punab was in the vanguard in india's freedom
struggle on all front's in india and abroad. Eight Princely states of
east punjab were group together to form a single state called
PEPSU-Patiala and the east punjab state union with patiala as it's
capital. PEPSU state was merged with punjab in 1956.
