Formerly the state under the
political control of the government of India .Manipur entered with the
interim agreement with the Indian union on august 15,1947.and the
political agency was abolished .The administration were taken over by
the government of India on October 15,1949.under the merger agreement and it
became centrally administered by the government of India through chief
commissioner. In 1950-51 advisory form of government was replaced by the
territorial council of 30elected and two nominated members was established
under the government of union territories act,1963 Because of unstable
party position in the assembly ,it had to be dissolved on October 16,1969.and president rule was introduced The status of the administrator
was raised from chief commissioner to lieut. Governor with effect
from December 19,1969 On January 21,1972. Manipur became the state and
the status of the administrator was changed from lieut. Governor to
