History

The First Well-known rulers of Maharashtra were the satavahanas. Then came the Vakatakas Who established the Indian empire. Maharashtra was  in the forefront in the freedom struggle and it was here that Indian national congress was born. Maharashtra was carved out of the erstwhile  Bombay state as a result of Bombay reorganization act,1960. Historically Maharashtra Falls in to Three Region's.-Western Maharashtra, Vidharbha and Marathwada among these Vidharbha has the hoary past and finds mention in the epic Mahabharata.   It was the part of Mauryan empire .Shivaji Included in to the marathas in to a powerful nation .Maharashtra provided a Fertile ground for the national movement.
