Malhar, The Youth Festival Mumbai.

'Malhar, the Annual Inter-Collegiate Festival has today become tantamount with zeal, competition, anticipation, exhilaration and tradition. The embodiment of the exuberance of the youth and the vibrant culture exuded by St. Xavier’s has alleviated Malhar to an echelon which has made it the essence of all college festivals. This effective platform to showcase young talent can be witnessed in the premises of none other than our very own St. Xavier’s College.

The phenomenon that Malhar is today began as the reverie of three strong-willed Xavierites in 1979 with a meagre participation of 3 colleges. This festival has now metamorphosed into a phantasmagoric event awaiting 60 local and 15 outstation colleges to append to its vivacity. Since its inception, Malhar and its official mascot, Puddles the Frog have evolved and explored a number of eclectic avenues making their presence felt in all spheres of activity. The aura of Malhar is exemplified by the fact that 20,000 people throng the Malhar arena every year.

As a part of our incessant attempt to constantly reinvent ourselves and the Spirit of Malhar, this year instead of a theme, we have a VISION… a vision of a CULTURE COLLAGE with Malhar 2006 epitomizing ‘A Culture of Creativity’. We, at Malhar, believe that our vision will give free rein to the immense creative talent of the youth and allow them to venture into uncharted territories.

‘A Culture of Creativity’ – Malhar, in its 28th year, will see creativity at its zenith. A complete picture is formed when various pieces of a jigsaw puzzle are fit together. Different colours come together to form the breathtaking scenic rainbow. Similarly, a harmonious blend of assorted blocks of innovative artistic activity, be it the culture of dance, theatre, literature, music, painting et al, will orchestrate a vivid, stunning collage leaving the audience mesmerized. An amalgamation of diverse cultures of creative expression like the Fine Arts Exhibition, the Literary Arts Lounge and the Book Sale will lend a fresh array of colours to the Malhar mosaic transporting everyone involved into another realm altogether.

Malhar is a magnanimous cultural festival which is brought to life by the efforts of a gigantic workforce of 1100 passionate college students. The very corporate organizational structure is made more efficient by a 5-tier hierarchy. At the top of the pyramid is the Chairperson who is assisted by two Vice Chairpersons, one responsible for the Management and the other for the Events. The Chairperson and the two Vice Chairpersons together comprise what is called the ‘trinity’. The entire Malhar workforce is segregated into 19 departments, each headed by an ‘Organizing Committee’ (O.C.) member. The next rung is that of the ‘Organizers’, better known as OGs who assist their respective OCs. The base of the pyramid is formed by the ‘Volunteers’ who are responsible to the organizers. The fervor and perseverance of these ebullient students will culminate into Malhar – one of the most awaited youth festivals in the country.

The Eliminations for the magnum opus event that is Malhar are scheduled for the 5th and 6th of August and the Finals for the 13th and 14th of August. So, come be a part of this elating experience… Set yourselves free and let the magic unfold…
