2) Shruthi Shringaar Carnatic (Carnatic vocals)
Keeping in mind that Malhar is essentially a youth-oriented talent
festival, Shruthi Shringaar Carnatic tries to bring out the best
in Carnatic vocals. So get your Swarams in the correct Raagam, to
the perfect Taalam and soak yourself in this unique form of singing.
3) Shruthi Shringaar Hindustani (Hindustani vocals)
Allowing you to please your senses with a soothing array of enchanting
vocals, an eclectic mix of Sur and Taal... Hindustani Classical
music is currently the rage all over the world and we persevere
to encourage this Indian form by providing a platform for the youth.
4) Ghunghroo (Classical Dance)
Showcasing the best of Classical dance from Bharatanatyam to Kathak,
from Odissi to Manipuri, Ghunghroo thus promotes diversity at Malhar
with this exotic blend.
5) Goonj (folk Dance)
From the heart of the states, to the stage of Malhar, Goonj reveals
folk dance in its pure traditional form. The event holds special
importance at Malhar as it is making an appearance after two years.
6) Iski Topi Uske Sar ( Geetantar)
A sad song sung with a peppy tune or a happy song sung sadly, sing
a song to different tunes. This mismatch is sure to get you giggling.
World Performing Arts
1) Moulin Rouge on Broadway
This new addition to Malhar ’06 is destined to be a “star
attraction”. ‘Moulin rouge on the Broadway’ introduces
Malhar to the pizzazz and glamour of Broadway musicals, bringing
with it a refined blend of fresh talent and panache.
‘Moulin Rouge on Broadway’ is a comprehensive event,
the only one of its kind under the World Performing Arts (W.P.A.)
department which targets the three major performance areas –
dancing, singing and acting all at the same time.
2) Drum Roll
The event which has held Malhar viewers mesmerized year after year
is back with a bang and this year the name says it all. “Drum
Roll” –Malhar’s ever so popular band event will
once again reach out to an extensive audience with the sound of
fresh talent reverberating off the walls of St Xavier’s College.
3) Illuminati
Started two years ago, Illuminati is an event that has created
a very vital position in the structure of formal events in Malhar.
This distinctive dance form is a work of illusion created by the
performers with the aid of UV lights provided to them. It is a unique
and captivating experience as the dancers weave a fantasy of sorts
which is emblazoned with colours and picturesque movements to leave
the audience craving for more.
4) Street Dance
Hey y’all there’s gonna be a showdown,
The street dancers are back in town.
Loads of ‘em gonna make some noise
So give it up for the girls & boys.
They’ve got the moves; they’ve got the flow,
So watch them burn up the dance floor.
5) Partners in Rhyme
Its all about melody, harmony & time
Hear them sing, it’s almost divine
So tune your ears in,
To the partners in rhyme.
6) Soul Sangeet
Music - the universal language is what this event stands for. The
synthesis of tradition and modernity and the fusion of the best
of both worlds are represented through this medium. A crossover
between the departments of World Performing Arts and Indian Performing
Arts, ‘Soul Sangeet’ promises to enrich your senses
with a musical extravaganza that will leave you wanting more.
Entertainment, Theatricals & Contests (E.T.C.)
1) Mr. and Ms. Malhar
E.T.C. is back with its ever popular and challenging personality
contest- Mr. and Ms. Malhar! The participants will be put through
grueling tests of the beauty, brawns and brains!
2) Treasure Hunt
The first quad open to the monsoon skies, bizarre ideas and youthful
wackiness is an ideal spot for a classic adventurer, this year ETC
will unleash the Treasure Hunt in the quadrangle, to keep all contestants
bobbing on their two feet.
3) Compere Capers
If you think you have it in you to keep thousands of people entertained
then read on!
If talking is your cup of tea,
Then place is for you to be!
Participants will be pitted against one another, presenting themselves
to really amazing judges. Those who are selected get to compere
on the final days of Malhar!

Craft Bazaar - Just stroll through a street full of art, colour
and surprises! See how pottery, block printing are done or better
learn it yourself!!

Gizmo Corner - Ever wondered how a lie detector or a hovercraft
works? Workshops Inc. is here to solve all your queries. Experts
at Gizmo Corner teach the participants how to assemble these gadgets...
Now this is what we call a real “work”shop.
I like to Move it Move it - The ever popular dance workshop stages

a taste of this new and phenomenal mode of Debating. Come, and experience
debating as never before. Also thrown in: A Parliamentary Debate
101 for the qualifiers on the second day of the Eliminations.
6) For Better or for Verse (English Creative Writing)
When you are challenged by a flashing-eyed duelist, is English your
weapon of choice? Can you hold thousands spell-bound, woven into
the net of your words? Are you, in short, a Word Meister? If yes,
then this is the event for you...
7) Chanderi Shabd Soneri Bol (Hindi and Marathi Creative Event)
An event where you can showcase your Hindi and Marathi writing skills
to the fullest... Only those who impress with the pen shall pass
into the Finals, where a very exciting and engrossing format (spoken)
awaits you.
8) Business Class (Corporate Challenge)
After the success of last year’s Corporate Challenge, Business
Class brings it back- it is better, snazzier, bigger and even more
unforgiving. Duet off your pinstripes, people, the Corporates are
back in town!
9) Laugh Man Standing (Stand-Up Comedy)
So, does Jerry Seinfeld quake in his shoes when he hears your name?
Have you given the monitor “class clown” a badge of
honour? Can you draw a laugh out of the most poker faced passerby?
Are you, in short, really funny? Measure up your funny bone against
the best.
10) Book Exhibition
The true bookworm hunts out the bookstore at every mall they enter.
The not-so-easily accessible collection of quality literature, contemporary
fiction, the latest (and not-so-new) magazines and racy paperbacks.
Well, now they’ve got it all, at the LA Book Exhibition. There’s
something for everyone.
11) The Court of LA (The LA Lounge)
The crowd surges around you as your tired feet protest weakly. Shunted
about by the ebbs and flows of the endless rush of people that is
Malhar, you see, suddenly, an oasis, a calm, a light at the end
of the tunnel... the LA Lounge! Back in a fresh new avatar, it is
the perfect place to put your feet up. Whether your wish is to spark
your mind or simply to stop fighting gravity, The Court of LA is
just the panacea you need.
Raga
1) Through the looking glass
At the time when all colleges are getting ready for their participation,
this is the time to show that you are an ace photographer. Pick
up your cameras and start clicking and preparing for your respective
colleges. Don’t forget to send these photographs to us at
Malhar. The best of your creation will appear in our very own newsletter,
the ‘RAGA’
2) More Than Words
Do you think the Shakespeare in you is lying dormant and is waiting
to be unleashed? If so, try ‘More Than Words’, a two
day formal event testing your skills at using select words to form
fun, witty and interesting poems.
So cheers and let the ‘Battle of the Bards’ begin!!!
Fine Arts
? Fine Arts Exhibition
Enter a playground of imagination and wild innovations. The world
doesn’t change, but the way we put it across can.
The exhibition is an amalgamation of visual inspirations from the
works of great artists and the things that we see around us everyday.
It is an attempt to experiment how art is viewed and do so in a
powerful yet creative way.
The main aim of this exhibition is to create an experience which
is fun and leave you wondering about certain things!! Coming together
at the art collage this year are larger than life objects, tunnels
of shadows, the time flow, the people instillation and animation.
So come and play imagination!!
? Fine Arts Events
1) Commercial Break
It is an ad film making event. Preceding the event, there will
be a workshop to understand the concept of ad film making, it is
an added attraction. The participants get a week to prepare an ad
film for the final day.
2) Sketch – Stitch – Slip – Click
It is an event attempting to create a comprehensive piece of work
where it aims at understanding how the fashion industry functions.
The designer makes a sketch and then the garment. The model displays
the garment and a photographer shoots her.
A trio of designer, a model and a photographer thus win extra points
for their college.
3) Mind of an Artist
An oil painting event where the contender gets an opportunity to
experience and understand the “mind of an artist” and
later incorporate his/her technique and style in their own paintings.
4) Eureka!!
As the name says it all, it’s a new event at Malhar 2006.
Do the things have to be the way they are? Are beds always going
to be flat? Are doors always going to be pushed or pulled?
Here’s your chance to revolutionize the world with our product-designing
event.
5) Well-Sooted
A charcoal drawing event where the participants will be taken to
a “place” and will be asked to sketch what they see...
6) Trailblazers U/A - Malhar Matinee
Everyone is excited about trailers of the new upcoming films. This
event is based on building on that kind of excitement. Given a theme,
you have to make poster and write a short summary around it.
7) Pop Culture
The participants will be given clay, wires, plaster of Paris and
A SURPRISE OBJECT where they can go wild and come up with an innovation
based on the theme.
8) Dream Weaver
A crossover of the three best event departments at Malhar 2006,
the L.A., F.A. and W.P.A., this event will challenge you in all
facets of creativity. So make your own cultural collage through
interpreting, animation and recreating your dreams.
9) Shape Shifters
A crossover between L.A. and F.A., where 2 participants are given
2 different objects. They work “independently”. After
this, they’ll have a surprise event by L.A.
Administration
Acting as the anchor where the basics are concerned, this participant
friendly department formulates the rules of Malhar. It is also responsible
for the distribution of passes, registration and tabulation of scores.
It is under them that the Rules and Regulations are printed, which
form the basis of all the activities of Malhar.
Assistance
In one word, assistance is crowd management. By handling movement
and traffic, it ensures the smooth sailing of events within its
jurisdiction.
Computers
Anything that involves printing, designing, typing... they manage
it all. Our site www.malharfest.org is created by this efficient
team of 8. From designing the t-shirts to the passes, it is all
their creation.
Graffix
Adding colour to your Malhar with its creative posters, charts,
certificates, décor is Graffix. Designing an aesthetic look
to this year’s cultural collage, it also doubles up as Malhar’s
personal make up artist. ‘They are more than what you can
see.’
Hospitality - The fuel that Malhar runs on
The way to a festival’s heart is through its stomach. We
at hospitality live by this creed. Fear not, we know our spices
from our condiments.
When you have to work a lot, hospitality provides all the food for
thought. Not only do we whet your appetite, we also facilitate lodging
and boarding of out-stationed colleges.
Logistics
The brawn behind the creative brains for Malhar... The Logistics
department is the third largest volunteer recruiter for Malhar.
It is the co-producer of the mega festival and sets up the college
for the various events.
From the stairs to the classrooms, from the stage to helping out
other departments, we help Malhar realize its dreams, and do so
in the most ‘logic’al and resourceful manner.
Security
As always security this year will have an audience friendly approach.
We not only secure Malhar but also the interests of the people coming
for Malhar. This year we have incorporated a lot of changes as far
as our structure and movement of traffic is concerned, to ensure
that all the people who come for Malhar 2006 have a stress free,
accessible and an enjoyable experience.
Souvenirs
A picture tells a hundred words, but a good memory is worth a million.
And Malhar memorabilia is a souvenir’s special. Whether it’s
a file, folder, bag, jewellery, candle or photo frame you want,
souvenirs is the place to get it.
Of course, we do the fun stuff too, hair braiding, nail art, faux
tattoos, mehndi, the works.
So come on over to souvenirs. Memories are priceless. We’ve
got a lot in store.
