Fisheries refer to the study of aquatic life forms and their relevance to human society. The biological study of the marine line as well as the study of the Geological and marine wealth of the ocean fall in the orbit of the science of fisheries.The mass breeding marketing and the export of marine products like fish, crab, prawns lobsters, shrimp, squid etc. have created the need for specialized training in the field of aquaculture.
The field of fisheries have opened the new areas of specialization and employment. The commercial cultivation of fish and scientific breeding of marine life is one area of potential employment. Professionals can also engaged in R&D activities in these industrial units or for government and state bodies. lot of job opportunities are also available in the training sector.
The specialist in fisheries can find jobs in marine industrial units as farm manager and hatchery manager. The farm manager design and construct the fish breeding and monitors their technicalities and infrastructure specificities. Harvest mangers are concern with managing the actual breeding process and related tasks. Post harvest processors prepare the sea food and dress them for the domestic and export market. Research work in aquaculture involves the improving the equality of the sea food and upgrading the processing technology. Fisheries inspectors are involved in transporting fish seed to the different hatcheries. At the base of hierarchy are the skilled workers like fisherman ,drivers, crew members of fishing vessels, fish cultivators and farm workers.
training in the field is imparted at the postgraduate level. the marine product export development authority (MPEDA) conducts one months strip farm management course for graduate and post graduate in zoology, marine biology, chemistry and civil engineering ,candidate with B.TECH and M.TECH are offered specialization in marine farm construction. Post graduate diploma in shrimps farming ,
prawn and fish technology, hatchery management, etc. are also available
